{"id":8239,"date":"2023-09-12T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-09-12T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesearnandburn.com\/?p=8239"},"modified":"2023-09-11T21:49:38","modified_gmt":"2023-09-12T03:49:38","slug":"budgeting-a-magic-word","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesearnandburn.com\/index.php\/2023\/09\/12\/budgeting-a-magic-word\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cBudgeting\u201d: A Magic Word"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you talk to a bank to change something, ask for something, appeal something, or to close something, you\u2019ll often be asked some form of \u201cWhy are you doing this?\u201d Usually customer service is asking for two reasons: first, because they\u2019ve got metrics and they need to keep track of reasons that people call, and second, they\u2019ve got practiced responses and rebuttals for common objections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s a simple answer to \u201cWhy?\u201d that almost always ends the conversation without any further discussion and you should add to your repertoire: \u201cBudgeting\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ek-indent wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"--ek-indent:20px\">[Q] Why do you have so many AmEx cards?<br>[A] Budgeting<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ek-indent wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"--ek-indent:20px\">[CS] This card offers thousands of dollars in savings for a small annual fee, why would you want to close it?<br>[Churner] Budgeting<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ek-indent wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"--ek-indent:20px\">[Q] Why do you have 27 checking accounts at our bank?<br>[A] Budgeting<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ek-indent wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"--ek-indent:20px\">[Q] Why are you downgrading this card two weeks after you upgraded it?<br>[A]: Budgeting<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ek-indent wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"--ek-indent:20px\">[Q]: I see a bunch of back-to-back charges for $49x.xx.
