All of the data-points I have suggest everyone shutdown has had two things conspiring against them in tandem:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An account on their credit report listed as &#8220;Closed by issuer&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A negative Ultimate Rewards balance (largely related to chargebacks)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>From my perspective the likely timeline was: A negative Ultimate Rewards balance led to an analyst getting involved, the analyst soft-pulled a credit report and saw derogatory marks and applied a two-strikes rule, then the analyst queued the account for closure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some unsolicited advice when dealing with banks and rewards, Chase or otherwise:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Don&#8217;t let your points balance or card balance go negative at statement close<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If one of those does go negative, transfer points and\/or spend as necessary to get it non-negative<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/personalfinance\/comments\/18py37\/the_most_important_strategy_in_disputing_and\/\" class=\"ek-link\">Dispute away any derogatory remarks from your account<\/a> (persistence will eventually pay off)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re shutdown, know that a shutdown at Chase is generally better than a shutdown at other banks because with a little luck and good timing, you&#8217;ve got a points machine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Have a nice weekend!<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-editorskit-rounded\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/milesearnandburn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/wave.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7778\" width=\"420\" srcset=\"https:\/\/milesearnandburn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/wave.png 960w, https:\/\/milesearnandburn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/wave-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/milesearnandburn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/wave-768x512.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" style=\"font-size:14px\">Pictured: The Chase shutdown wave hitting some unlucky manufactured spenders.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the last day there&#8217;s been a wave of Chase shutdowns that have swept through very specific parts of the community.
