{"id":5683,"date":"2022-11-01T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-11-01T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesearnandburn.com\/?p=5683"},"modified":"2023-04-18T11:17:47","modified_gmt":"2023-04-18T17:17:47","slug":"a-1300-sign-up-bonus-on-a-sleeper-card","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesearnandburn.com\/index.php\/2022\/11\/01\/a-1300-sign-up-bonus-on-a-sleeper-card\/","title":{"rendered":"A $1,300+ Bonus on a Sleeper Card"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Morgan Stanley used to have a co-branded no-annual fee American Express card, but that card vanished early this year. <a class=\"ek-link\" href=\"https:\/\/milesearnandburn.com\/index.php\/2022\/06\/09\/the-defunct-starter-morgan-stanley-card-and-its-replacement\/\">A replacement came, but it was about as exciting as getting a job as a clerk in the county recorder\u2019s office in Lubbock County, TX<\/a>; useful and valuable to be sure, but wow there are many other more exciting gigs out there. <\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve got a perfect storm brewing for this card though:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a class=\"ek-link\" href=\"https:\/\/us.etrade.com\/l\/morgan-stanley-blue-cash-preferred?coid=ep-msbcp-ms-14\">Its sign-up bonus increased to $400<\/a> earlier this week<\/li>\n<li>It offers $100 statement credit after spending $15,000 each year<\/li>\n<li>There\u2019s a targeted (via chat or phone) offer for $200 for adding an authorized user card and spending $1,000<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019re now eligible for the card if you have an E-Trade account, which is trivially easy to get<\/li>\n<li>The $95 annual fee is waived for the first year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To maximize this card\u2019s value, you\u2019ll want to manufacture some spend as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$6,000 at grocery stores for 6% back ($360)<\/li>\n<li>$9,000 at gas stations for 3% back ($270)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When all is said and done, this card will get you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$400: Sign-up bonus<\/li>\n<li>$100: Spending bonus<\/li>\n<li>$200: Authorized user bonus<\/li>\n<li>$360: Grocery <\/li>\n<li>$270: Gas<br \/>____________<\/li>\n<li>$1,330: Total<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Not bad, eh? I don\u2019t have any data-points either way about the churnability of this card, but based on what I know about similar cards at American Express you can probably do this multiple times, just make sure you keep the card open for a year to keep you out of the <a class=\"ek-link\" href=\"https:\/\/milesearnandburn.com\/index.php\/2022\/04\/26\/american-express-penalty-box-getting-out\/\">penalty box<\/a>.
