{"id":1890,"date":"2021-06-30T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-06-30T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesearnandburn.com\/?p=1890"},"modified":"2023-04-18T12:28:33","modified_gmt":"2023-04-18T18:28:33","slug":"chase-shutdowns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesearnandburn.com\/index.php\/2021\/06\/30\/chase-shutdowns\/","title":{"rendered":"Chase Shutdowns and Weekend Debauchery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I alluded to some of the weekend train-wreckage that was happening in private groups <a class=\"ek-link\" href=\"https:\/\/milesearnandburn.com\/index.php\/2021\/06\/28\/monday-followup\/\">on Monday<\/a>, but now that the <a class=\"ek-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/churning\/comments\/o8fnr8\/new_chase_leaked_links_courtesy_of_andy_and\/\">situation<\/a> is <a class=\"ek-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/churning\/comments\/o9geh6\/weekly_discussion_thread_week_of_june_28_2021\/h3hfck6\/?utm_source=reddit&amp;utm_medium=web2x&amp;context=3\">public<\/a> and many in the community are affected, I think we should go over a few points:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A semi-well known <a class=\"ek-link\" href=\"https:\/\/reddit.com\/r\/churning\/\">\/r\/churning<\/a> Redditor, <a class=\"ek-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/user\/JonLuca\">JonLuca<\/a>, allegedly examined Chase\u2019s source code last summer and manufactured or found links that bypassed Chase\u2019s backend business intelligence rules (it\u2019s unclear to me what is meant by \u201csource code\u201d, perhaps just looking at the HTML\/JavaScript at chase.com, or perhaps something else).<\/li>\n<li>This weekend in private groups there was a discussion about leaking the JonLuca hacked no-lifetime-language, pre-approved Chase business credit card links to the greater community as an attempt to shield a few heavy hitters from potential shutdown by overwhelming Chase\u2019s fraud team with sheer numbers, allowing them to blend into the noise.<\/li>\n<li>After a long discussion, the links were shared in several private groups, then at a semi-public event, and finally on <a class=\"ek-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/churning\/comments\/o8fnr8\/new_chase_leaked_links_courtesy_of_andy_and\/\">Reddit<\/a>. To be clear, I think the motivations were different for each case, and disclaimers ranged from none at all to very cautionary\/\u201dthis might get you shutdown\u201d. Certainly not all actors were malicious but some probably were and the cat jumped way out of the bag.<\/li>\n<li>Yesterday, a wave of Chase shutdowns came and according to several other private groups, they keep coming. There are mixed data points, but it seems like if you used at least three of those links, or perhaps just two, you\u2019ve been shutdown or you shouldn\u2019t be surprised if you get shutdown over the next couple of days.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the end, I think a fair number of shutdowns happened to people who probably weren\u2019t going into the links with their eyes wide open or with full information, and that sucks. This game can be very <em>caveat emptor<\/em> and you should always be slightly weary.<\/p>\n<p>Where do I stand in all of this? I didn\u2019t use the links or share the links because I didn\u2019t think they were safe, so I\u2019m fine and I hope you\u2019re right there with me. What\u2019s the difference between these links and the <a class=\"ek-link\" href=\"https:\/\/milesearnandburn.com\/index.php\/2021\/06\/29\/american-express-bonuses\/\">American Express links I shared yesterday<\/a>? The main difference is that the American Express links are low risk to me because they are semi-public, they don\u2019t bypass any American Express backend eligibility checks, and they\u2019re widely targeted.<\/p>\n<p>My advice for you: Don\u2019t use backdoor applications that bypass eligibility checks unless they\u2019re public links you can find at the bank\u2019s website, or if the links are widely targeted. Definitely never, ever use links that were hacked out of an examination of a bank\u2019s source code, whether or not that source code was public. If you don\u2019t know where a link came from, research it, ask around (feel free to ask me if you don\u2019t know who else to ask), and do some diligence.
